Services Provided

I provide individual and couples counseling to address a wide range of issues. Some of the individuals with whom I work with are at a crossroads or transition period in life. Some are experiencing loss, depression or anxiety. Others struggle with out of control behaviors. Some feel mired in unhelpful or dysfunctional situations or patterns in relationships, at work, or emotionally that leave them feeling defeated at times. Many of the obstacles my clients experience are rooted in issues of connection and disconnection. Whether clients that meet with me are struggling with addictions, anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, dual diagnoses,  emotional disturbances, grief/loss, transition, relationship concerns, personality-related issues, self-esteem, spirituality, mood disorders, stress, sexual concerns or life-balance related concerns, often this suffering and struggle is rooted in a sense of disconnection or isolation.

As mentioned above, I work with a wide range of clients from age 18 and up! My clients come from all walks of life and my current roster of clients is rich and representative of the diverse population across central Massachusetts. Although I welcome all types of clients, I specialize in work with the following populations or areas of need:

College and University Students - For over 11 years, my work as a therapist and clinician has focused exclusively in work with college and university students. As a Director of Counseling Services on a liberal arts suburban college campus, and as the clinical training and personal development coordinator in a multi-service counseling center on an urban and international campus, I developed an expertise in working with students experiencing a wide range of mental health related concerns. The importance of students having access to a seasoned clinician who also has significant experience working with students in a campus environment is critical. I help students navigate and find balance with the competing demands and multiple challenges of college life.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning individuals and couples - Across my 27 year counseling career, and in particular during my years working in college mental health, I have routinely provided support and services to many gay, lesbian, bisexual, and questioning individuals.  As an openly gay therapist and gay affirmative therapist, it has always been extremely important for the clients I serve to know that being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or of any sexual or gender orientation/identity is a positive and wonderful part of who we are as whole people.  In the words of the great and courageous gay rights pioneer, Frank Kameny, "gay is good".  My personal and professional experiences with the LGBT populations have enriched my knowledge, insight, experience, and sensitivity.  This has allowed me to respect unique individual experiences, and given me a strong sense of the vast and varied types of relationships that sustain and strengthen us as a diverse community.

Relationship issues - As a therapist who practices within a relational framework, relationship issues and concerns have always been a part of my work with most individuals. Whether our work involves working one to one or if we work together with both you and your partner, I cherish helping individuals and couples navigate difficult issues and establish growth-fostering relationships.

Musicians and Performance Artists - For over nine years of my professional counseling career, I worked mostly, and at times exclusively, with musicians, artists, dancers, and other performance artists. My work as a counselor, clinical training coordinator, and personal development coordinator at Berklee College of Music from 1999-2006, as well as my work as Director of Counseling Services at Dean College, working with many students studying dance, as well as significant work with musicians and artists working professionally in the arts after and separate from college, have all provided a solid foundation and understanding of the unique and specific issues and needs of this wonderful population. I studied music for 12 years of my life.  My experiences as a musician (in the past), and as one partnered to a visual artist and musician the past 18 years have additionally supported my understanding and enhanced my ability to empathize with musicians and artists from all walks of life.

I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs to help attain the personal growth they’re striving for. I am authentic, interactive, and direct in each therapy relationship I form. I view each person as a unique whole person with varied needs and goals.
